Problem
The University Opens Taekwondo Competition required a design that effectively represents the collaboration between the University of Sydney, University of New South Wales, and University of Technology Sydney. The challenge was to create a cohesive emblem that visually embodied the spirit of unity while reflecting the unique identity of each institution.
Solution
Through iterative refinement, the final design effectively communicates the core values and ethos of the University Opens Taekwondo Competition, and also emerged as a cohesive representation of the event’s significance - reinforcing the collaboration between the University of Sydney, University of New South Wales, and University of Technology Sydney. This unified visual system functioned as both a promotional asset and the official emblem on competition medals, enhancing engagement, fostering a sense of community, and strengthening the shared identity of participants and attendees of the competition.
The Approach
The design process for the University Opens Taekwondo Competition involved close collaboration with participating universities and the University of Sydney Taekwondo Club president. Through multiple iterations and feedback, the emblem was refined to represent unity and collaboration. Each version paid homage to the Korean origins of the sport, and aligned with the event's goals - strengthening the shared identity among athletes and resulting in a final design that resonated with all involved.
The final design for the University Opens Taekwondo Competition celebrates and merges the distinct identities of each university, acting as a visual representation of unity and collaborative spirits. Displayed on all promotional materials and medals, the logo reinforces a collective identity and fosters a sense of community among competitors and event staff.
